JoAnne (Scalamogna) Gahres

JoAnne (Scalamogna) Gahres, 93, of Dillsburg, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

She was born December 12, 1932, in Harrisburg, PA the daughter of the late Joseph and Kathleen (Kennedy) Scalamogna. She was a graduate of William Penn High School.

JoAnne was the widow of Paul N. Gahres.

She worked for nearly 30 years for Shelby Mutual Insurance Company. She retired from Merchants & Business Men's Insurance Company as assistant claims manager.

JoAnne had been an active and dedicated member of Monaghan Presbyterian Church where she could most times be found working in the kitchen. One of her greatest loves was the annual cookie sale held each December at Monaghan. She was known for her delicious sand tarts and baked close to 100 dozen - for the sale - each year that she could participate. She also volunteered for the Farmers Fair Association, Red Hat Society, Garden Club, and Northern York County Historical and Preservation Society (all of Dillsburg), just to name a few.

She enjoyed quilting, traveling, gardening, all animals, helping people wherever she could, and she especially took great pride in her home. She was a determined woman; fiercely independent, feisty, and had a great sense of humor.

JoAnne is survived by her devoted daughter Kristen Acri of Camp Hill; and one niece and one nephew in Arizona. She was preceded in death along with her parents and husband by her brothers Jerre Gratz and Donald Scalamogna. 

Services will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 11:00 am in her church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Monaghan Presbyterian Church, Dillsburg, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
