Louise Harrington Obituary

 

Louise N. Harrington, 83, formerly of Buffalo,  New York,  and Bay Village,  Ohio, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Normandie Ridge, York, PA.

   She was born April 18, 1940, in Buffalo, NY,  the daughter of the late Kenneth and Alice (Payne) Niblack and was raised after the death of her mother at a young age by Elizabeth (Gledhill) Niblack.

    Louise taught elementary education and retired from the City of Cleveland School District. 

    She was a longtime member of the North Olmsted United Methodist Church in Ohio. Louise was very active as a Girl Scout leader and volunteered with many organizations through out her life. She was an avid reader and enjoyed archery and sailing. Music was an important part of life for Louise and her family, including singing with counterpoint around the campfire. She raised her five daughters on a diet of crafts, games and Nancy Drew mystery stories. And homemade cookies. Louise was a loving, accepting and eternally optimistic soul. 

    Louise is survived by five daughters, Patricia A. Harrington-Duff and her husband Joe of Ellicott City, MD, Sally J. Harrington-Caldwell of East Berlin, Denise H. Ketcham and her husband Rich of Austin, TX, Holly M. Yaniero and her husband Robert of Mooresville, NC, Rebecca S. Brown of Dillsburg; one sister, Beth R. Thorpe  of South Burlington, VT; twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death along with her parents by one brother Walter K. Niblack. 

    She leaves a legacy of joy behind as she moves on to her greatest adventure.

    A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 1:00 pm in the Cocklin Funeral Home, Inc., 30 N., Chestnut St., Dillsburg. Services will also be livestreamed on the Cocklin Funeral Home Facebook page. 

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Adams County Library System, 140 Baltimore St., Gettysburg, PA 17325 or the White Rose Hospice, 224 St. Charles Way, Ste 100-105, York, PA 17402.
